My Quirky Habits

Jun 2, 2025

Everyone has quirks. Here are mine.

I Don't Use Alarms

I sleep with curtains up, door open. Natural light wakes me.

Been doing this for years. Alarm sounds feel violent and intrusive. Why start the day with stress? Unless absolutely necessary, I skip them.

My body knows when to wake. It's smarter than any app. I don't enjoy sleeping late anyway. If I do, I wake up thirsty, needing to pee, or with a headache.

When I must be somewhere—say 8am appointment, 30 minutes to get ready—I calculate backwards. Set one alarm for 7:15am, the absolute latest.

Exeption: Early flights. 3am departures shatter everything.

My Phone Lives on Silent

Not vibrate. Silent. Do Not Disturb mode mostly on.

This drives my mom crazy. Sorry, Mom.

Here's the deal: I have trouble focusing. When I find flow, it's precious. Phone notifications are concentration killers.

I check messages when I choose to. Not when the phone demands it. No obligation to reply immediately. Busy or not, my attention is mine to give.

People adjust. Emergencies find a way through. Everything else can wait.

These habits work for me. Sometimes they cause friction. And that's okay.

They make me me.

What are your quirky habits? The ones that make perfect sense to you but confuse everyone else?
